Hi there.
I just bought the Decision Calculator, and set up my first decision.
What I immediately found is that I have several features which have a negative influence on the points. For instance, my features are for which project to tackle first. Two things that have a negative effect on whether I choose a project are 1) how long does it take? and 2) how difficult is it? I would like to assign these as negative scores. For instance, a "How long does it take (in weeks)?" feature could deduct 1 point for every week the project takes (or 5 or what have you, depending on what you set the importance of that feature to be).
I thought I might be able to get away with this by entering negative low and high numbers in the range (it does show them that way on the interface) but alas the total points added were still positive.
I hope this makes sense ;)
A great start to your app, good luck!
I look forward to more features, and hopefully negative scoring.
The idea of having a feature's setting actually DEDUCT points is an interesting idea. I think we will give that some thought and think about how to implement that.
Right now, you probably noticed, that the "worst" values for a feature are always on the left side of the slider and the "best" values on the right.
So if project takes from 1 to 10 weeks, and assuming that the longer the *worst* for you (though it might be best for somebody looking for long-term employment!) you could put 10 on the left side and 1 on the right side and then the highest positive score would still be as you move the slider to the right (towards the quickest, shorter-term project).
That's the way we were thinking about it - that "relatively speaking" that is better than the other projects with regards to that attribute because it adds less to the positive score.
In other words, "adding less" seemed to us to be basically equivalent to "subtracting" from the overall score.
But you would like to see it not only report the correct "relative" ranking but also allow a way to deduct points for something really bad. An interesting idea. We will give this some thought as to how to implement that and also not wreck the current "relative scoring" structure.
To be able to send a summary by email. Not sure what that would be? Maybe just rank/scores. Extracting all the other data would probably be an unnecessary luxury!
Add links in notes perhaps ?
Nice if the 'Choices' view reordered to show rankings in order high to low.
I've used some simple and complex spreadsheet based systems before, so I found it very easy to use. I will look forward to using it on some business tasks very soon.
Overall I think it's excellent. And it complements stuff like iBluesky mindmap in helping to take new ideas to proposal stage and beyond.
In particular, I think the suggestion of sending a a summary by email is a great idea. In fact, when we were discussing upgrades the other day, that was the first thing I mentioned too! :)
I'll check on what is involved in adding links in notes and a re-ordering view.

Feature settings which deduct points
Hi, Aardvark. Thanks for your comments.
